A POST WAR KITCHEN MAKEOVER
Client’s Vision and Fears;
Take a very small, outdated kitchen and redesign to incorporate modern conveniences.
Overcome inaccessible plumbing lines and her apprehension. After a lifetime in the same
home she wanted change but found the prospect of changing what her parents had built daunting.
The finished product would include reusing the existing refrigerator a new range, stackable washer and dryer,
microwave, dishwasher and a storage pantry. A small seating area for her morning coffee, she asked is all of this possible?
The Challenge and Solutions;
Bring a late 1940’s kitchen to a usable modern space incorporating current kitchen technologies. The existing kitchen had two small entrances no seating area and the microwave and dryer in a different room. The goal was to combine storage and appliances that were in other areas of the home into one workable and easy to use space that would function in
the kitchen.
The most difficult challenge was the size of the kitchen, Contained in that space would be, storage, dishwasher, microwave, a washing machine and clothes dryer. To create room the exterior door was removed. Half of one wall was removed to make room for a small seating peninsula. The appliances all needed to stay in the same general location because the slab on grade nature of this home had all waste and water lines under concrete. The owner’s budget left no room for jack hammering out floors to relocate plumbing. KBR’s Kitchen Design was able to find solutions for all of the client’s wishes. A small dining area next to the kitchen had become an over flow area for storage and appliances. Now all storage and appliances were in the new kitchen area. The client has a small breakfast seating area and the previously overflow dining area became more suitable for her table, chairs and china cabinet. This completed the task of providing an answer to her question. Yes, it is all possible!
Client’s Personal Note;
| I can’t believe how fast I can cook up things now because of the way the kitchen is laid out. Thank you again for a wonderful design.
